چکیده

Thank you for the opportunity to comment again on the article by Jiang et al. (1) and their response (2) to our previous commentary (3). As we wrote previously, their article describes an important implementation of diabetes prevention services in American Indian communities. Although this translational program was not a randomized clinical trial designed to test the effectiveness of the program, weight change in the participants can be measured without a comparison group. We thank the authors for now providing weight change results (2) and pointing out that weight change could not be derived from the original published data. We believe that weight change data are essential in interpreting intervention programs for prevention of type 2 diabetes. Jiang et al. are again to be congratulated for carrying out an important and difficult prevention program.

We are especially grateful to the authors for underscoring the ...

Response to Comment on: Draznin et al. Pathways to Quality Inpatient Management of Hyperglycemia and Diabetes: A Call to Action. Diabetes Care 2013;36:1807–1814

We are pleased to hear from our British colleagues who agreed with our call to action to engage in more clinical research in order to generate data supporting the benefit of glycemic control in hospitalized patients with diabetes (1,2). This paucity of clinical evidence was indeed the impetus for organizing our consortium PRIDE (Planning Research in Inpatient Diabetes). It is gratifying to lear...

Comment on: Wolpert et al. Dietary Fat Acutely Increases Glucose Concentrations and Insulin Requirements in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes: Implications for Carbohydrate-Based Bolus Dose Calculation and Intensive Diabetes Management. Diabetes Care 2013;36:810–816

I read with great interest the recent article by Wolpert et al. (1) in which they compared postprandial responses elicited by lowand high-fat dinner test meals and concluded that dietary fat increases glucose levels and insulin requirements in people with type 1 diabetes. This is consistent with recent results of ours showing that adding 20 g of fat as margarine to 110 g of bread (50 g starch) ...

Response to Comment on: Chakkera et al. Can New-Onset Diabetes After Kidney Transplant Be Prevented? Diabetes Care 2013;36:1406–1412

Hecking et al. raise several important questions in their letter (1). First, compared with classic type 2 diabetes, how important is insulin sensitivity in the development of new-onset diabetes after transplantation (NODAT)? Second, compared with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, is NODAT more rapid in onset? Finally, what are the relative contributions of lifestyle intervention and exogenous insulin ...
